The definition of “hosting” doesn't describe a single service, but a variety of services which provide different functions to a domain address. Having a website and emails, as an example, are two separate services despite the fact that in the general case they come together, so many people see them as one single service. Actually, each and every domain has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each particular service - the former is a numeric IP address, that identifies where the website for the domain is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that handles the emails for the domain. For example, an A record can be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Each time you open a site or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. If you have custom records on their end, the web browser request or the e-mail will then be sent to the correct server. The concept behind employing separate records is that the two services work with different web protocols and you can have your website hosted by one company and the emails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting through our company, you're going to be able to view, set up and modify any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. Provided that a given domain name has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to modify particular records through our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or emails directed to another provider if you would like to use only one of our services. Our innovative tool will even enable you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain the slightest bit. If you want to use the email services of another company and they want you to set up more than two MX records, you can easily do this with just a few mouse clicks through the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can even set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

With the semi-dedicated servers which we provide, you'll have full control over the records of all domain names and subdomains that you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records every one of them has using the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting CP and modifying any record takes just a few mouse clicks. If you decide to switch your web or email hosting provider, you can change the necessary record and point your domain name to the other company for one of the services, as you still continue using the other one through us. Also you can keep the main domain here, while you modify the A record of only one of its subdomains. If you are changing the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the standard two that we have, you can create them with ease and set a different priority for each one.
